Make the sauce first:
In a medium sauce pan, melt 1 stick butter, which in 5 tablespoons flour and cook for a couple minutes. Over medium heat, whisk in 3 cups of milk. Stir constantly until sauce starts to thicken. Add salt and pepper to taste.
In a greased 9×9 baking dish, layer 6 medium russet potatoes that you peeled, sliced, and rinsed, adding salt and pepper to each layer as you go. (I did 3 layers-just put a good layer on the bottom, salt and pepper. Then another layer…etc.) Pour the sauce over the potatoes and bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and continue baking until potatoes are fork tender. (at least another 30 minutes) Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.
Scalloped Potatoes
Just like grandma used to make.

Then whisk in 3 cups of milk. Stir constantly until sauce starts to thicken. Add salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
In a greased 9x9 baking dish, add a little sauce to the bottom, then alternate layers of sliced potatoes and sauce, adding salt and pepper to each layer of potatoes as you go, and end with a layer of sauce.
Pour the sauce over the potatoes and bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and continue baking until potatoes are fork tender. (at least another 30 minutes) Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.
